This book is good company during an overnight train journey. You don’t get bored and the premise is very interesting. The amount of research that must have gone into this, the thought itself is astounding. He left nothing unexplained and that effort makes me appreciate the end result a lot.
However, the writing as the book progressed, got a little repetitive. In his quest to build up suspense, the author resorted to writing small snippets of each perspective and many of those snippets contributed nothing to the story except for a reality TV show type of dramatization. The story is quite interesting in itself and this attempt at dramatization felt quite unnecessary.
This is the first part of a series and the story doesn’t end with the book. He leaves us with a cliff-hanger and it is a good thing he did because his style of writing didn’t compel me to pick up another book of his.
BOTTOMLINE : Worth a read. Those of you who enjoy a thriller with a historical component, this would be an ideal book for you. The story line is good and that is what will make you come back for more.
